Lisa Osborne's Pedal To The Metal Los Angeles: Traffic Capital of the U.S.A. City of Angels Tops the List of 100 Worst Traffic Cities in America Here’s some news that will come as no surprise to commuters in Southern California: Los Angeles traffic remains the worst in the nation, according to the 2010 INRIX National Traffic Scorecard Annual Report, which has analyzed and compared the landscape of traffic congestion in the top 100 markets in the U.S. Overall, the INRIX study found traffic congestion in 2010 was up an average of 11% across the nation compared to 2009. And, with California’s unemployment rate higher than the national average, were more workers on the roads during rush hour, traffic headaches in Los Angeles could be much worse. Many commuters across the U.S. battling the busiest roadways during rush hour spent an extra 80 hours last year sitting in traffic during the evening ride home. Thursday and Friday evening rush hours are the worst of the week, especially during the peak travel times of 5PM-6PM. Tuesday replaced Wednesday as the busiest morning commute of the week. The report also discovered that in major U.S. cities gridlock acts like a magnet, attracting more congestion as frustrated drivers try to get to where they’re going in a reasonable time frame. The INRIX study discovered that, not only was Los Angeles traffic the worst than in any other city in the US, but also several European countries including the U.K, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
